Mr. Wiggles

This adorable dog has helped teach my kiddos how to treat books.  I printed the pages on card stock had them laminated and then bound into a book.  I read at the beginning of the year and sometimes throughout if I feel they need a reminder on how to treat books properly!  I must say I "swiped this with pride" from one of our literacy coaches, but she was more than happy to let me share it with others.  Hope you enjoy!

Meet the Teacher!

My name is Christina, I am a 2nd grade teacher and this is my 2nd year teaching.  I love my job and must say like many other I find it more of a "hobby" than a job!  I am happily married to my wonderful husband Jim and love his son like my own!  We have 2 spoiled little puppies -- Mia & Brittney.  I am originally from Maryland, and my husband is from Ohio (HUGE buckeyes fan!)  And now we live in Corpus Christi, TX ... everyone always ask how we ended up down here ... well he was in the Navy and this is where his son lives so basically we moved here to be closer to his son.  I miss my family and friends a lot, but I visit as often as I can!  One of the perks of being a teacher I get to spend part of my summer visiting family and friends :)  Well I hope to keep up with blogging, I love reading/finding all the awesome ideas from fellow bloggers, so I hope to share my ideas with others as well!

  On our wedding Day!
This was taken during our Disney Trip this past Thanksgiving-- sooo much fun!!

Spoiled Puppy #2 -- Mia

Fish for an Idea ...

This is a cute idea for a center or to have out during Writer's Workshop when your kiddos can't think of something to write about.  I printed the fish on colored card stock and had them laminated, then I found a fish bowl and put them inside and also put the label on the bowl.  Now when my kids need a topic to write about they go to the fish bowl and "fish for an idea"

Best Decision I've Made This Year ...

This is only my 2nd year teaching, and I am learning soooo much as I go!  I kept seeing others post about using a clip chart rather than other forms of behavior charts and I wasn't sure about switching, but man am I glad i did -- I used to use the flip chart where they started on green and then as the day went on they would flip their color down if they were misbehaving.  Well those days are over!!

NOW ... we use the clip chart and it's wonderful because I find myself pointing out the positive behaviors so much more, which is contagious for the kids and they all want to get my positive recognition :)

It's worked wonders in my class!

Classroom Tour ...

This was my room at the beginning of the year -- bare walls and stuff everywhere

Sign was made from vistaprint.com -- you must check this site out of you have not yet, it is awesome!  They have a ton of stuff and you only pay for shipping, check out my website for other things I've made from there!

Awesome idea I found in the mailbox magazine, my kiddos use this to tell me what they want for lunch or if they brought lunch, if they are absent their clip stays on "I'm Absent Today" -- I can easily make my lunch count and take attendance, and help kids be more independent!

Not my design, but I found this from someone on the 2nd grade Teachers Club and I made it into a poster using Vistaprint.com

This was an old black table from Walmart that my husband was getting ready to trash -- well of course I couldn't let that happen.  I got red and yellow paint and sponge painted the whole thing, now it serves as an extra table for the kiddos when we work in groups or do other activities.
Hope you enjoyed the classroom tour -- I'm already thinking about all the different things I will be doing next year ;)

My first blog post!!!

I am so excited to finally start my blog after countless hours stalking other wonderful blogs ... like The First Grade Parade and The Inspired Apple ... those 2 wonderful ladies have inspired me to create this blog!  It is still quite a work in progress... well I'm off to create a few more posts!
